Day Habilitation

Day Habilitation

ACDS’s Day Habilitation (Day Hab) Program provides meaningful opportunities for adults who are transitioning from school to adult life. Designed to promote independence, community inclusion, and personal growth, the program blends skill-building with fun, rewarding experiences.

Participants volunteer at various community sites, building life, work readiness, and social skills while making valuable contributions. Each week includes a variety of volunteer assignments in the community, meaningful activities within the agency to assist other departments, engaging activities such as  Zumba, yoga, cooking and movement to stay active and healthy, and a community outing or trip twice a month.

Day Hab also offers a wide range of enrichment activities from music and art to recreation and wellness designed to foster communication, relationship-building, self-advocacy, and informed choice. Services and supports encourage greater independence and focus on areas such as:

  • Daily living skills
  • Basic safety
  • Health & wellness
  • Community integration
  • Money management
  • Job readiness
  • Socialization
  • communication

ACDS partners with over 20 different organizations and volunteer sites across Long Island which provide our participants with a wide array of meaningful activities and opportunities. The program runs year-round, Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with door-to-door transportation to our Merrick and Plainview sites.
