5 Plus Respite/Recreation
5 Plus Respite/Recreation
We believe that everyone deserves opportunities to learn, grow, and have fun. ACDS’ 5Plus Recreation & Respite programs give children, teens, and adults with developmental disabilities the chance to explore new interests, strengthen social skills, and build lasting friendships.
5Plus department participants enjoy year-round activities after school, in the evenings, and on weekends. Popular Respite programs include Saturday Recreation & Sunday Integrated Community Experiences (I.C.E.). Our Respite programs give families and caregivers the chance to take a well-deserved break, while ensuring their loved ones are supported in a safe and engaging environment. These services are available to individuals with a documented developmental disability who meet OPWDD (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities) eligibility requirements and live at home with their family. Respite programs are funded by Medicaid.
ACDS’ 5Plus Recreation program includes classes in Yoga, Cooking, Money Skills, Canoeing, Sports and a Zumba fitness activity called Let’s Groove. Our Recreation program is open to adults with a documented developmental disability who live either at home with their family or in a certified residential setting. Recreation programs have a registration fee.
Summer Adventure is a 5-night/6-day overnight respite program held each August. Participants develop independence, enjoy a variety of recreational activities, and practice their daily living skills by staying in a bunk setting with their peers.
ACDS’ 5Plus Program provides these activities so our participants have meaningful opportunities to learn, connect, and thrive, while supporting the families who care for them.
