Residential Services
ACDS provides safe, supportive, and family-like homes for adults with developmental disabilities, age 21 and over. With eight Individual Residential Alternatives (group homes) and one apartment located across Wantagh, Merrick, Freeport, Seaford, and Albertson, NY, our residences are designed to foster independence, dignity, and community inclusion.
Each home is staffed 24/7 by trained Direct Support Professionals under the supervision of a House Manager, with Registered Nurses providing medical oversight, staff training, and support in all areas of health and wellness. Residents are encouraged to take pride in their homes by participating in daily responsibilities such as self-care, cooking, cleaning, and shopping, while also enjoying recreational activities, social opportunities, and meaningful connections with peers, family, and the community.
Our residences look and feel like any other house in the neighborhood – warm, inviting, and thoughtfully adapted to meet individual needs. Residents are supported in developing and retaining essential life skills, including:
- Daily living, domestic, and independent skills
- Socialization and communication
- Travel and community orientation
- Personal Safety
- Health care and medication management
- Recreation, leisure, and personal development
- Money management and problem-solving
Through these supports, individuals build independence, form lasting friendships, and actively participate in the world around them, living not just in the community but as part of it.
