Day Habilitation Without Walls

ACDS “Opportunities” Day Habilitation (Day Hab.) Program Without Walls offers individuals who are aging out of their educational placement the opportunity to partake in an Adult Day Program that enables them to volunteer in their community. Our well established location at St. Pius in Plainview serves 50+individuals. The participants’ days are both fun filled and rewarding. They volunteer at various sites in the community with the aim of ascertaining and increasing life skills, work readiness skills and social skills.

Additionally, each participant goes on a “Community Outing” or trip each week.  Participants enjoy practicing their skills in a variety of settings including in the Karaoke Café, lounge, iPad room and by staying active doing Zumba, yoga and movement activities. ACDS provides door to door transportation to and from our Day Hab.

The Day Hab. program was initiated in September 2010 with 6 participants and has grown rapidly to include a second site in North Merrick. There is space available at both of our locations for additional participants.
